QWERTY fans need not apply --
your phone hasn't quite hit yet -- but folks in search of a slick-lookin' little slider on Helio have another solid choice. Just like its big sib, the
Drift, the Heat comes to Helio
courtesy of Samsung, but gains touch-sensitive controls and a lower price point. The new model serves up Bluetooth, 136MB of internal memory (though no external -- advantage Drift), 1.3 megapixel cam,
Helio Music compatibility, and the full suite of GPS goodies including Google Maps and Helio's "Buddy Beacon" service atop a 2-inch QVGA display. Look for the Heat to go on sale today for $150 in your choice of Gold and the always-fashionable "Onyx" (alias "black"). Follow the break for a shot of the Heat doing its slide thing in both shades!

The Japanese have a popular trend of turning inanimate objects into cute women. They've previously done so with Windows (among other operating systems) and planes. But the PSP's time has finally come and multiple artists are making renditions of PSP-tan.
The idea is to make a girl that is cute, but a visual representation of the PSP and I think the example to the right does a good job. There aren't a lot of PSP-tan renditions out there though, so I command our readers to make their own versions and I'll put them up on PSP Fan Art Friday!

Dream Games is a new weekly column where we explore a game we'd love to see on the PSP. Feel free to check in, and comment, every week.Chrono CrossYou may remember a little game called
Chrono Trigger. It's considered one of the best games ever created, and the sequel is almost equally superb.
Why PSP?Square loves remaking games. And the PSP is home to a good number of them:
Valkyrie Profile,
Final Fantasy,
Final Fantasy Tactics. Surely, a
Chrono Cross remake will be heading our way.
Is it possible?Yes. I'd like to think it's quite likely. But, will Square put the effort to make a
Rondo of Blood-like remake? Imagine: a fully graphically revamped
Chrono Cross with
Chrono Trigger added as a bonus. It would be the most value-packed UMD ever created. Hmm ... doesn't sound like Square's into that
"value" thing. Regardless, both
Chrono games are good enough to warrant a revisiting.

Modeo hosted a little shindig tonight to unveil some of its future
DVB-H plans and show off some kit. The big news is that the FCC has approved Modeo's request to boost signal power by 10 times in urban markets and 20 times in rural areas, giving the company a much easier path to coverage rollout and better signal quality. Modeo also mentioned that while it's currently testing service in NYC only, it has designs already in place for moving into the top 30 markets in the US. We also got our hands on upcoming DVB-H SD and mini-PCI cards, with the SD cards up and running in a myriad of Pocket PC devices, and the mini-PCI card running smooth -- though rather pixelated -- video on a Dell laptop. The next move for Modeo is to get channel changing time under 2 seconds, continue to improve video quality, add PVR and mediacasting capabilities, and stick interactivity into the programming. Modeo's software partner Penthera already had most of those capabilities up and running on demo units, as you can see in the gallery below, so it looks like most of this stuff will be all ready by the time a commercial launch happens. When that might be is anyone's guess. Modeo is still looking for a retail partner, and they made it pretty clear that Qualcomm's
MediaFLO model of hitching onto mobile providers is exactly what Modeo would like to be doing -- unfortunately for Modeo, nobody's signed up yet.

Malaysian startup Gupp Technologies is prepping its baby (and by baby we mean ugly baby, that only mommy could love) -- the Phreedom -- for Q2 release this year. This dual-mode VoIP / GSM
abomination little fella will be running a la Mobile's Convergent
Linux platform, so fiddlers, start your engines because Linux anything means open source! It's good news for Gupp that this handset is also partially redeemed with a solid feature set, packing 802.11b/g, push and pull mail, 312MHz CPU, 320MB memory, VoIP with seamless handover to GSM, and a 2200 mAh battery to supply the juice for it all. Billed as a
VoIP device first and a GSM handset second, this may be an interesting notion, but until we get our greasy hands on it, the jury is out -- and so far the looks are hurting its case.

The highly anticipated remake of PS1's Final Fantasy Tactics finally has a release date. Famitsu's newest issue lists May 10th as the Japanese release date, with a price of 4,800 yen (no release date outside of the US was given). Of course the game isn't just a direct port, it'll have beautiful FMV cut-scenes and new character classes. Tactics games are one of my favorite game types to play on a portable, but there aren't many to choose from, so between this and Disgaea, it'll be a good year for tactics fans with a PSP.

New York Comic Con had a great deal of games based on anime franchises. But, they were all on the DS. The one game that I had to play was the upcoming PSP
Dragon Ball Z game. I got a chance to talk to some representatives from Atari and I had a blast. As you can see in the embedded video above, the graphics are quite smooth, and the presentation is quite sleek. The "Another Road" mode offers an original story for
DBZ fans to appreciate. Load times? Minimal. The controls were incredibly accessible, creating for fast, fun battles.
The game looks to be quite ideal for on-the-go play. I wonder if it'll feature enough depth to satisfy hardcore gamers. Also, with my relative lack of inexperience with
DBZ games, I have to admit, I'm not exactly sure how much
Another Road expands upon the franchise. Can it feel fresh, considering how it's Atari's 26th
DBZ game? We'll find more closer to its
March 20th release.

We admit, we were a little perplexed to see that
ASUS is not "officially" endorsing this super-svelte and touchably beautiful
Aura handset. Alas, the Aura was supposedly a design prototype ordered by ASUS from Hungarian design company Egy Studio. The problem is that ASUS claims the entire Aura handset is, well, a complete fake. If so, why are official-looking images of the device posted on Egy Studio's website? This makes little sense except for ASUS possibly trying to take back information on a leaked prototype that,
umm, exists at the website of an alleged design partner of the Taiwanese company. We'd all love to see this killer Aura concept come to life -- but maybe it's just not to be after all.

Cory Barlog, director of the upcoming
God of War II recently spoke with
GameDaily BIZ, waxing on about the future of the franchise. When asked if the franchise would ever jump ship to the PSP he had a few interesting things to say: "That would be awesome. I mean, I've been a big proponent of that concept for quite a while. I want it on every possible system you could put it on. I think it's definitely a possibility. It's not something we haven't discussed but it's not something we're actively discussing right now."
But does this mean that the
Ready at Dawn slip-up was just a mistake? It sounds like Barlog is denying that
God of War is currently in development for the our system. We keep on hearing conflicting reports of
GoW on the PSP, but hopefully, we'll see what's going on with this hotly anticipated title at next week's GDC.

NamcoBandai sent us over some new footage for their upcoming title
Quickspot, giving us all a better idea of how the final product will be. We already knew the game was going to be a time-based affair where the player needs to spot differences in two pictures, but we didn't know that it would look so fun. With the right price, we could easily find ourselves adding this title to our library.
The trailer has been embedded past the post break for ye olde convenience.
