Every week PSP Fanboy brings you new
backgrounds for your PSP to keep it safe from unbackgrounitis. This week we have reader submitted backgrounds from Megarules. You'll just have to keep reading to see what these backgrounds are.
Backgrounds after the jump ...

Put this Cloud background on your PSP and get ready to see how it all began in Crisis Core later this year.

Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X is to this day one of my favorite PSP games. If you like Mega Man in any way, go purchase it right now.

And Megarules even gave us an anime related background to keep in the tradition of what we do. If you don't know what anime this is from, than you probably don't watch anime.
[Thanks Megarules]

What's a surefire way to revive a smartphone when it starts to get a little long in the tooth? Why,
pull a Nokia: bundle it with some relevant accessories and rebrand it as a "Music Edition," of course! To be perfectly clear, this here
Q is the same old Q we know and love; Bell's simply given it a new face by throwing in a 2GB miniSD card, stereo 'phones, and a $25 (CDN, we're assuming) gift card redeemable through the MSN Music Store. Get it by signing up for a three-year contract on a voice / data combo plan -- if you dare -- for $130.
[Thanks, Terry]

A few goodies are listed in the latest price sheet we've had passed to us -- dated April 1 to April 7 -- and while we always need to be cautiously skeptical with these sorts of things, we're pleased with what we're seeing on here. On the data side of things, both the
Sierra Wireless 875u and
Option GT MAX Express have appeared, giving mobile warriors without PC Card slots a couple solid options for getting bits and bytes hauled down; they'll both be available for $300 before rebates. Turning our attention to handsets, Samsung steals the spotlight here with two models that are piquing our interest. First up is the
A717, a phone with Ultra Edition roots that we first spotted at CES, bringing HSDPA in a ridiculously thin flip package for $240 before rebates. Next is the more mysterious
A437; we know virtually nothing about it, but at $420 before rebates, it's gotta be something cool (word on the street is that it might be a North American rendition of the
D900 slider). In other news, the
Nokia N75 is still listed for $420, but it's any guess when exactly it'll be showing up. Have faith, Symbianites!

Controlling handset envy is always a challenge in this business -- without fail, manufacturers inevitably introduce your phone's successor just as soon as you work up the courage to plunk down that rather sizable wad of cash. Fortunately, there's a hacker out there for virtually every model from every manufacturer, cooking up ways to keep the phone fresh well beyond its maker's intended shelf life. Such is the case here: yes, Sony Ericsson would like us to toss our
K800s in the trash and pick up the re-upped
K810, but seeing how our K800s still have that new phone smell on 'em, that seems just a bit silly. Users have discovered that the K800 hardware embraces the K810's firmware with open arms, bringing with it the latter's cooler themes and improved media player, and all you have to do is pay a few bucks to get it flashed. Not a free lunch, but about as close as it gets. Cool, eh? Heck, it's so simple, it barely qualifies as a "hack."
[Thanks, David]

Every Saturday, PSP Fanboy will answer your burning questions. If you have a question for the team, send an e-mail to
andrew @ pspfanboy.com with the subject "
Ask PSP Fanboy."
Q: I was checking out the
Devil May Cry 4 trailer on Xbox 360 Fanboy and a commenter raised an excellent question. I had heard a version of
Devil May Cry is(was?) due for the PSP, any word on when that may happen or if it is still going to happen?
A: We contacted Capcom, and all they had to tell us was that the release "is still TBD." What does that mean? Sounds like they haven't started work on it yet, have they?
Q: I have a PSP with firmware 3.03 OE-C . I've been in the homebrew scene for a long time, but I got bored of it. If I update to 3.30, what steps should I take to minimize the chance of bricking?
A: Depending on
what kind of hardware you have, you'll have to download
this patch before attempting to upgrade to 3.30. Make sure you always restore your system to 1.50 before attempting an update: this is the safest way to ensure your firmware will be upgraded.
Q: When the system is plugged into a wall socket and turned on at the same time, the PSP will no longer charge. Has this happened to you too?
A: I've been able to play with the AC adapter, and it appears that the system still charges, at least for me. However, I believe the battery does not charge when you're connected via Wi-Fi. Your incident seems isolated, but I'm sure fellow PSP Fanboy readers experiencing the same problem will contact us.
Q: Is it possible to use the PSP as a wireless network adapter for my PC?
A: No, not to our knowledge. It would be a lot wiser to get a dedicated wireless card. Why? The one in the PSP isn't that strong. Your computer will want better!
Q: What's the "
PSP Store"?
A: Check out our original coverage
here. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though the store will actually provide full game downloads. Right now, the store has returned, with free expansion packs to
Wipeout Pure, but no sign of a free full game.

Just over a fortnight after
deploying UMTS 900, Alcatel is now announcing that we Americans better get prepared for an absolute onslaught of phones right here in the US market. The 20 phone lineup is being dubbed a "spring lineup of fashion phones" that are reportedly quite the "chic and stylish" bunch. While there wasn't much detail on the specification end, we do know that the handsets will sport "soft-touch plastics, a leather-like finish, and design touches like dots of liquid metal." Of course, the ladies should appreciate the already-promised floral offerings, and those eying a low- to mid-range phone should find at least one option that suits their fancy. Among the barrage will be flavors that sport a 1.3-megapixel camera, 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, dedicated music controls, and support for 1GB TransFlash cards to boot. Currently, the outfit is already working to get its GSM handsets approved by
AT&T, and the CDMA phones should be good to go on several "smaller regional carriers," hopefully by May of this year.

Yesterday we mentioned that
Monster Rancher was going to be ranchin' up some monsters on the DS. One of the most notable features of the new version is that it uses
GBA games to generate monsters, in the same way that previous
Monster Ranchers used CDs, or the
Barcode Battler used dog food labels, or
Treasure Gaust uses magnetic fields.
There have been a few games that give GBA bonuses, like
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, which rewarded
Aria of Sorrow owners with an extra item, but this is different. To some extent, your success in
Rancher is contingent on your GBA game ownership.
How does that
strike you? Is it cool to be rewarded for having access to a nice GBA collection, or do you feel like you're being punished for not buying enough cartridges? Or has this news got you out searching for cheapo cartridges?

A while back, I asked what readers wanted to see from SmackDown vs Raw 2008. One of the most requested additions was that of ECW wrestlers. Well, either someone was listening or they think just like PSP Fanboy readers. THQ is saying ECW will have a "significant" presence in this year's wrestler. ECW superstars, arenas and luckily weapons will be in the game. On the gameplay front, THQ said "realism and strategy are at the forefront". There will be a new submission system, new rosters, more interaction areas, more outside the ring action, new online community additions, and finally a combined season and general manager mode.
Sounds like this will be the best WWE game yet!

Once again,
Team C+D has decrypted Sony's
latest firmware. Although this doesn't provide anything tangible for end users, this is a crucial first step in creating new custom firmware. While the decryption was expected, the poem written by the team was not:
3.30 Decrypter!
* From Team Create+Destroy.. *
Some thought we failed - or had disappeared,
But $ony beware - your last hour is near.
In spite protections and multiple locks,
In spite busy lifes and - unwashed - socks,
For you to enjoy but for $ony to fear,
3.30 decrypter is ready, so cheer!
Why do these people seem to hate Sony? They've made an impressive piece of hardware for us to enjoy, yet somehow that's seen as an evil thing? Regardless, 3.30 has been decrypted: feel free to celebrate/mourn in however way you choose.

We here at Engadget Mobile tend to spend
a lot of way too much time poring over the latest FCC filings, be it on the net or directly on the ol' Federal Communications Commission's site. Since we couldn't possibly (want to) cover all the stuff that goes down there, we've gathered up all the raw info you may want (but probably don't need). Enjoy!
