In the midst of everything else -- boy, we didn't think we'd be saying that after the
keynote, at least in regard to the DS! -- bursting out of E3, we almost didn't notice this line on a
release list of upcoming DS games:
Nintendo Magic. Once we did, however, a collective gasp shuddered forth from the DSF staff as we realized that this rather vague name (which, for all we knew, could have been the release of the
money-printer at last) was most likely
Magic Taizen, the magic trainer that we thought might never make it outside Japan. It looks like we're not the
only ones who've reached that conclusion. We can only hope we'll be learning some one-handed cuts and all about pulling rabbits from our clothing this November. DS games are a lot cheaper than buying
magic books!

One is all new as of E3, and the other got a great media boost ... and together, they're about as different as DS games can be and still be played by roughly the same groups of people (and also have the potential to be any good at all). So, c'mon, we've
been here before. You know what we're going to
ask. Which one sounds like the game you'd prefer, if you had to choose?
Contra 4 or
Mario Party DS?

Okay, we admit it. We're cheating a little. Instead of letting someone come to us with their nifty gaming goodness, we saw something that was simply so awesome we had to ask if we could share it with you ... and luckily, NeoGAFfer cloudwalking had no problem with us showing off this incredible cake. Hey, if it was ours, we'd want to show the world as well!
Birthday girl cloudwalking's good pal jarosh had this Kirby cake made, but the fun didn't stop there. As he was slowly
dismembered devoured, the pair had fun changing his features around, as you can see in the gallery ... though the reddish filling on the knife is a little disturbing. Poor Kirby! We're not sure we could have made ourselves eat the little guy. Then again, it could be revenge for the times we've been inhaled in various
Smash Bros. matches.
Can you top a nummy Kirby cake? If so -- or if you have anything else you want to show off -- you too can be in this spot, with everyone cooing over your awesome stuff. Just take some pictures and send them to
showmeit at dsfanboy dot com. We'll take care of the rest
.

The release of
Picross is just around the corner for American gamers (
none too soon!), and the title packs a huge punch considering the budget price. Not only does it look awesome, but it's been well-reviewed, and we'll have
downloadable content. That's so great that Nintendo hardly needed to whet our appetites with a few new screens, but hey -- we're not complaining. Check 'em out below!
Did we mention the wifi multiplayer? How can it be included in a lower-priced game like this, but not in
Mario Party? We love you, Nintendo, but sometimes, we just don't understand you.

It looks like the second round of
Brain Age will have a lot more to offer, and that's without even considering the unlockable
Dr. Mario! We've updated our gallery with new screenshots that include images from a change-making game (a very helpful skill to practice) and a pretty dubious drawing of New York that's still better than anything we could manage (but somehow reminds us of Pictochat ... ). And don't forget to check out the trailer after the jump!

Alright, we get it. DS developers obviously think we can't do
anything on our own. Let's just look at a few of the training titles for various regions so far: walking, brain, vision, yoga, gardening, spelling, reading, language, face ... geez, what's left? Someday -- and that day may be soon -- developers are going to end up putting
really mundane things into trainers (as though walking wasn't mundane enough). We can only assume that next on the list is something like
Button Training: Learn How to Dress Yourself in Minutes a Day! Well, as there are
more of you than there are us, we're certain you can come up with even more ridiculous training games. And just think ... as silly as some may be, they just may end up on shelves, and they'll probably be
awesome.
Hygiene Training, here we come!
Wait, that one may actually be useful for some people out there ....

Well, call it a
controlled explosion, kinda like a
smart bomb -- but we're still pretty pleased to see some sweet new media from a brand new DS game. Er,
mostly new, considering it's a franchise title. Still,
Mario Party on the DS sounds like a winner, though we would prefer more than just local wireless play.
Mario Party could only make
Game Night that much more fun, amirite? Oh well, enough complaining -- check out the images in our gallery and the spankin' new trailer after the jump.

My friends, we are at war ... with minivans. And let us be the first to tell you -- the minivans are losing. Hoorah!
Frankly, we
take it back. We're not in any way upset any longer about the Nintendo keynote. In fact, we've already forgotten the keynote, because we all keep fainting at all the hotness that's been released on forthcoming DS games. These amazing new
Contra 4 screens are just the beginning.
Let's all celebrate these screens by taking off our shirts and flexing a few muscles! Well, all you
fellas in the audience, anyway.
This blogger will be skipping that part in favor of simply
drooling on the gallery.

With yesterday's
announcement of three all-new (well, one is only half-new) games for the US from Atlus, we thought it might be a good time to ask which one sounds the most interesting to you. Do you want to do a little
detecting with Mackenzie and her
suspiciously-shaped sidekick? Are you more the type to get
down with the rhythm, particularly when it looks inspired by
Jet Grind Radio? Or do you want to be a
Grapping superstar?
So
what'll it be?
Ontamarama,
Draglade, or
Touch Detective 2½?

Okay, we were cool with our new
big brother-in-arms -- after all, we had some sweet connectivity to look forward to, and it just gave us more excuses to crow about Nintendo taking over the world with devices what print crisp new bills. But
today's announcement ruins everything. We hate you, Mr. Johnny-Come-Lately Wii, because you stole our
Trauma Center.
Listen, we think it's keen and all that
Trauma Center: New Blood is going to do what the first Wii port didn't -- that is, feature actual character voices and video. Y'know, the sort of things one expects from a console game. The text adventure style of the DS game suited the DS just fine, but once the game made the jump to the Wii, we expected a lot of things we didn't get. We also think the
Iron Surgeon new coop play mode is pretty keen. But why can't we have a little piece of the action on our handheld? Are we supposed to be satisfied with
Lifesigns? We're certainly pleased about the localization of another
medical-themed game, but we want our
Trauma Center! We require gut-wrenchingly difficult gameplay and the satisfaction of
touching during surgery.
We know it's a bit rich to complain about Atlus, considering the
flood of announcements today. But really, why have they taken away our surgery game? We're so sad. You've cut out our hearts, Atlus ... and the healing touch of other new games just isn't enough.
